Responsibility
- recognise problems and apply appropriate methods to identify causes and effective solutions seeking advice of senior colleagues as appropriate
- communicate scientific information appropriately, including use of laboratory information management systems either digital or paper based
- maintain supplies of consumables for day to day use
- provide technical support and assistance to laboratory scientists by setting up, performing and reading microbiology tests such as serial dilutions and colony counts, diffusion and dilution susceptibility tests using specified instrumentation and equipment according to Standard Operating Procedures
- produce reliable and accurate records of laboratory results in the appropriate laboratory paperwork, spreadsheets and log books according to Good Documentation Practice to facilitate data analysis and interpretation by senior laboratory staff
- at all times, ensure that the Laboratory areas are kept clean and tidy and that adherence to laboratory cleaning schedules and hygiene standards is maintained
- calibrate laboratory instrumentation at specified frequency intervals ensuring records of equipment maintenance and servicing schedules are maintained and equipment databases are updated accordingly
