- reliability essential, e.g. in securing school
- experience in building maintenance work
- must enjoy working as part of a team, be adaptable and supportive of colleagues
- good oral and written communication skills
- physical ability to carry out manual handling tasks, i.e. lifting, climbing and moving of items
- ability to relate in a firm but friendly way with a wide range of personalities
Responsibility
- operate heating plant to maintain required temperatures, ensuring, where appropriate that adequate supplies of fuel are available
- dispatch and take delivery of goods, laundry and materials
- monitor the performance of outside contractors working on the school site and inspect completed work
- transfer goods and materials delivered to the school to the appropriate locations around the school site
- regularly check the automatic security and fire alarm systems and arrange for these to be serviced as recommended
- carry out routine check on fire fighting equipment and ancillary equipment, e.g. automatic pumps, maintenance of batteries etc
- in liaison with the Premises Manager/Business Manager, promoting and managing the establishment’s letting facilities, where appropriate
- provide safe access to the buildings and classrooms in the event of snow, minor floods and similar emergency situations
