Responsibility
- prepare meals that meet nutritional requirements and adhere to special diets prescribed by healthcare professionals or requested by residents
- ensure a variety of menu options to cater to different tastes and dietary needs
- estimate food quantities required for each meal and oversee the inventory management of kitchen supplies
- ensure that meals are cooked to the appropriate texture and consistency for residents with chewing or swallowing difficulties
- pay attention to food presentation, ensuring that meals are visually appealing and appetizing
- implement proper food handling and storage techniques to maintain food safety and prevent contamination
- collaborate with the care home's management and nutritionist to understand residents' specific dietary requirements and preferences
- communicate with residents, their families, and staff members to gather feedback and suggestions regarding meal preferences and satisfaction
Requirements
- proven experience as a chef, preferably in a care home, healthcare facility, or similar environment
- in-depth knowledge of nutrition and special dietary requirements, particularly for elderly individuals
- strong culinary skills and the ability to prepare tasty and visually appealing meals
- understanding of food allergies, sensitivities, and modified textures for residents with swallowing difficulties
- familiarity with food safety regulations and practices
- excellent organizational and time management skills
- effective communication and interpersonal abilities
- ability to work well under pressure and in a team environment
