research and measurement sit at the very core of our business here at NPL
develop standard procedures in the microscopy area
keep abreast of developments in the literature for the microscopy area
we have an exciting opportunity for a Higher Engineer level to join the microscopy area in the Advanced Engineering Materials group based in Teddington
operation of laboratory equipment including the use of FIB, EDX, EBSD, micro-mechanical testing and look to improve existing techniques wherever possible
you will be working within NPL’s microscopy facilities, which is home to some unique facilities that support UK industry, alongside a team of internationally leading scientists
carry out short- and long-term projects for internal and external customers
Requirements
A background in Materials Science, Physics, or another relevant discipline
knowledge of Microstructure - property relationships and scanning electron microscopy
good interpersonal skills
A good team player with a positive attitude
experience in research science
understanding of quality systems
excellent customer facing skills – internally and externally– ability to listen, understand and explain relevance of results and understanding capabilities and needs of other groups and ability to identify where the Advanced Engineering Materials group can complement their work
