Responsibility

  • to label all opened foods with the date and as per good practice
  • to minimise food wastage
  • to prepare and plan meals so that residents have a choice of food/drinks/snacks
  • to prepare and present meals that looks appetising
  • to maintain high standards of cleanliness throughout the kitchen and to follow the cleaning schedules including deep cleaning
  • to ensure that stock levels of all products, in the kitchen are maintained, and that all stock is in date, stored correctly and as required replacement orders are made
  • to assist with the cleaning of crockery, cutlery and other kitchen utensils, in line with the procedure
  • to ensure familiarity with the resident’s care plans regarding nutrition and hydration, and all related/relevant risk assessments

Requirements

  • good interpersonal and customer facing skills, able to empathise, maintain professionalism, display patience and politeness within a sometimes pressurised environment
  • to maintain a courteous approach to all colleagues, even when under pressure
  • A conscientious, flexible and ‘can do’ working style, able to take the initiative
  • confidence to deal with difficult situations and to know when appropriate to seek guidance from the home manager
  • proven drive and enthusiasm for food preparation and cooking, with a desire to update product knowledge and skill set, where required
  • good team working skills and ability to work with minimal supervision and own initiative
  • good oral communication skills. Ability to communicate with both residents/visitors and colleagues at all levels of seniority and liaise effectively with members of the multidisciplinary teams i.e. dieticians
