Responsibility
- ensuring the active selling of Museum tickets to ensure the delivery of the Business Plan targets
- marketing, social media and audience development according to the current Audience Development Plan
- working with the Director and Curator and Finance team to propose Annual Budgets for Board approval

- recruitment, training, and management of the Visitor Experience Team
- manage all costs including staffing costs within budget in areas of responsibility
- overall responsibility for building security, alarm management and administration
- working with the Director and Curator, Board and Visitor Experience Manager to develop and implement a retail and shop stock strategy
- oversee the management of all accounts and payments in areas of responsibility
- oversight and management of the information technology network for the whole organisation
- work with the Director and Curator to develop income generation through fund raising and other means
- manage Health and Safety of visitors and employees, including first aid
- represent the Museum on external boards and initiatives related to tourism, marketing and visitor attractions, locally, regionally, and nationally as appropriate
- assist with Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator reporting
- working with staff to develop press and opening events
- support and actively contribute to the Board’s fundraising work
- working with staff to develop and promote the Kilmartin Museum Friends Membership scheme
- working with appropriate staff members, prepare grant applications and manage grant funded projects
- working with external consultants Corner Shop Marketing to deliver the 2023 Marketing Strategy and Action Plan and sustaining marketing activity beyond 2023
- working with the Director and Curator, Finance Manager and Board to propose self-generated income targets for approval and manage staff and resources to ensure those targets are met
- managing the Visitor Experience Team to ensure all aspects of the public and staff areas of the Museum site are maintained to an appropriate standard and issues are resolved promptly
- kilmartin Museum inspires and educates people by interpreting, explaining, and conserving the internationally important archaeological landscape, artefacts and natural heritage of Kilmartin Glen
- kilmartin Museum is run by Kilmartin Museum Company Ltd , an independent Scottish charitable company. The Museum is at a pivotal point in its history with a major redevelopment project reaching completion
- strategic responsibility for the on-site café – managing the Café Operator through a rental agreement or manager to deliver an income-generating/ rental paying café experience and additional catering events
- the post holder will work closely with the Director and Curator to ensure continued delivery of the Museums mission and vision following the completion of a major redevelopment project ensuring the goals of the project are maintained longer term
- the post holder will be expected to attend meetings elsewhere on occasion for which reasonable expenses will be paid
- the post holder will take lead responsibility for organising out of hours alarm call duty and will be a rota member
- reporting to line manager, KMCL Trustees and funders as necessary
Requirements
- demonstrable experience in a similar role
- demonstrable passion for archaeology, Museums, artefacts, and natural heritage
- an understanding of the vision of Kilmartin Museum, the Redevelopment Project, and our aspirations for the future

- experience of operating a tourism/visitor attraction including retail and catering aspects
- knowledge and experience of Human Resources, recruitment and contracts procedures and law
- experience of income generation in the charity/voluntary sector or similar
- educated to degree level in a relevant subject
- excellent interpersonal skills to foster relationships at all levels internally and externally
- demonstrable experience of successful funding applications
- experience of working with volunteers
- demonstrable experience of successful charity/voluntary sector or similar financial management
- proven experience of working with external partners at all levels
- experience of working within charity/voluntary sector governance structures
- sound knowledge of procurement processes
- proven experience of working with consultants to develop and deliver a marketing campaign including social media
- proven line management experience including knowledge of HR processes and procedures
- track record of delivering evaluation
- proven effective manager, able to develop a team and support and motivate staff and volunteers
- experience of the retail management sector including devising stock selection strategies
- excellent IT skills
- social media skills in a work environment
- excellent organisational and time management skills, ability to prioritise workload to suit organisational need
- valid driving licence
