Responsibility
- construct and repair walls, foundations, chimneys, and other structures using bricks, concrete blocks, and mortar
- lay out patterns or foundations according to blueprints or specifications
- cut or break bricks to fit around windows, doors, corners, or other obstacles
- mix mortar or grout and spread it onto a slab or foundation
- use hand tools such as trowels, levels, and jointers to ensure the proper alignment and spacing of bricks
- operate power tools such as saws and drills to cut and shape bricks
- install firebrick linings in industrial furnaces
- repair or replace damaged bricks or masonry units
Requirements
- proficient in working with various types of masonry materials including bricks, concrete blocks, and stones
- knowledge of different masonry techniques and construction methods
- ability to read blueprints or construction plans to determine layout and dimensions
- experience using power tools such as saws and drills for cutting and shaping bricks
- familiarity with hand tools like trowels, levels, jointers, and hammers for precise brick placement
- understanding of basic carpentry skills for framing openings and installing lintels
- knowledge of welding techniques for reinforcing structures if necessary
