Requirements

  • A willingness to learn and develop skills and knowledge
  • experience in a residential or respite setting with children / young people with learning disabilities
  • willingness to study for NVQ 3 Caring for children and young people
  • working Knowledge of residential/respite child care practice
  • the ideal candidate will have a strong confident personality, a great sense of humor and a willingness to work with vulnerable and challenging teenagers with challenging behaviour, past trauma, social and emotional difficulties, and mental health difficulties
  • sound understanding of needs of children/young people with learning disabilities
  • the provision has a great senior team offering over 20 years of experience and is committed to ensuring the young people we support get the most from the support we provide at White Horse House
  • knowledge of child protection practice

Responsibility

  • to enable children/young people to develop their social skills and to access appropriate leisure activities and promote their participation and independence
  • to be responsible for recording all information clearly and accurately, including medication
  • establishing relationships and providing practical/emotional support to the children/young people who use the service. Working closely with the children’s families, carers and other professionals
  • to support children/young people with their daily routine, including personal care, religious and cultural beliefs, mobility, administering medication and any health related procedures
  • to support children and young people to make their own choices and decisions, ensuring that their needs and wishes are fully considered in decision relating to them
  • to ensure the protection of the children and young people from significant harm, by, observing changes in children’s behaviour or appearance and complying fully with Jayne's Homes Child Protection policy
  • you will be responsible for key working a child in our care, writing reports and attending meetings with external professionals and other duties allocated to you
