- provide technical advice to assist in resolving complex issues or queries which arise within the team
- interact with HMRC to bring disputes to a resolution for our clients
- support the Head of Department in ensuring that systems, processes, and controls are in place and are fit for purpose
- involvement with the firm’s output relating to key fiscal events, such as the Budget
- manage HMRC enquiries and LDF related matters and dealing with HMRC correspondence of both compliance and advisory nature
- support the Head of Department in the implementation of group wide projects and initiatives
- responsible for timely project billing, cash collection and monitoring of budgets
- contributing to the review and development of the firm’s risk management procedures, in particular as it relates to business tax
- responsible for billing and monitoring budgets
- support senior management in ensuring that team procedures are documented, periodically reviewed, and updated
- assisting client facing staff with responding to technical and practical tax issues, including technical input on new developments affecting clients of the business tax teams
- review tax analyses, computational and report work prepared by more junior team members
- review compliance and basic advisory work prepared by more junior members of staff
- other ad hoc projects or tasks as needed to enable partners and staff to deliver a high quality service to clients
- providing technical updates on new business tax measures, including writing material for the firm’s internal and external newsletter and presenting tax issues at meetings and other forums
- assist with managing junior team members, helping them with technical and personal development
- assist with managing junior member of staff including helping them with technical and personal development
- take responsibility for oversight of a team always ensuring that all team tasks are documented and completed to deadline and that reconciling items are resolved within appropriate timescales ; appropriate action is taken to rectify errors or omissions and that any anomalies are escalated in a timely fashion; procedures, controls and training are reviewed following any risk event to mitigate
- present at technical training sessions
- review the risk and controls matrix in line with group policy and implement any required changes in the team
- engage in personal business development activities and support business development activities of the team
- assisting Partners in, and where appropriate, lead tax planning projects such as non-domicile issues, onshore and offshore trusts and, capital gains and inheritance tax issues
- assisting with the development of technical training delivered by external providers on business tax matters, including reviewing training materials. Occasional delivery of training on business tax topics
- assist in preparation of appeal cases to the Tax Tribunals and above; liaising with HMRC Solicitors, the Tribunal Service and appointed Counsel as required
- maintain and develop technical tax and case law knowledge relevant to TDR

- candidate Profile
Requirements
- relevant level 3 FCA recognised professional qualification e.g., CISI Investment Operations Certificate – required
- professional accounting and/or tax qualification e.g., ACCA or CTA
- relevant tax dispute experience. Experience with COP9 and COP8 investigations required
