- develop an effective portfolio of New Business and a Renewal planning process with brokers
- taking ownership of allocated cases, and working proactively with the broker to achieve the right outcome
- building and retaining a network of producing brokers to ensure a flow of new and renewal business into the portfolio
- prospectively and actively contributing to the growth targets of the team
- identifying poorly performing accounts and investigating reasons for lack of retention
- conduct broker research into business development opportunities
- building relationships with both internal and external stakeholders
- liaising with the claims department on open claims

- interacting with the Head of PI, actively engaging in the development of new products and wordings
- acting as a strong referral point for your team, providing technical assistance and guidance to junior colleagues
- work with the existing broker panel to forge relationships and trust
- underwrite within the company's strategy and authority limits, referring all cases outside of strategy or individual limits
- undertaking domestic and international business travel as needed, attending renewal meetings and ensuring business development
- developing and supporting the company’s Commercial Lines account by developing both new and existing relationships with regional brokers
- developing a pipeline of prospects
- supporting referrals within your team, as well as providing technical assistance and guidance to junior colleagues
- produce and maintain underwriting files for both internal and external viewings and to prepare for audit
- supporting and maintaining agreed service levels to both internal and external customers
- helping colleagues to achieve the planned renewal retention and rate improvement targets in the region
- liaising with External Counsel / Internal Legal department on underwriting issues and wording development
- perform underwriting checks prior to quoting
- developing mutually beneficial relationships with colleagues and national brokers, attending training, review meetings and social events as required
- developing and supporting mutually beneficial relationships within a panel of Real Estate brokers based around Bristol and Birmingham through positive engagement
- key Requirements
- actively contributing to the growth targets of the team optimising sales and retention through monthly meetings with Bristol and Birmingham, both in person and on MS Teams
- leading and developing partnerships across a panel of mid-market brokers, helping to support broker training, organise broker social events and undertake performance reviews
- experience in Real Estate Underwriting is essential, including experience of profitably underwriting larger and more complex commercial risks
- maintaining an up-to-date knowledge of the Commercial Lines market, the regional broking marketplace, and legislation / litigation which could affect the writing of business
- portfolio management skills
