we are recruiting a Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team based in Lee On The Solent, UK
introduction: DFS Composites Ltd
the successful candidate will be joining our global engineering team and be responsible for the entire lifecycle of mechanical designs from concept through to full scale production, with the latter of this process in conjunction with our production teams in China, Mexico and India
the designs will be for a range of tooling solutions from basic steel structures for lifting equipment, to complex mould tooling for manufacture of composite materials
perform ad hoc engineering duties and administration as required
Requirements
bachelor’s degree in engineering, preferably mechanical but other relevant degrees will be considered
at least 5-years’ experience in a design engineering field

solid experience in PLC programming using ladder logic and structured text
proven experience working with 3phase electrical systems including motor controls and variable frequency drives
experience with IoT Remote Access Gateways, MQTT and JSON
ability to fault find complex control systems through PLC diagnostics, data logs and general engineering knowledge
experience with heating control systems and hydraulic control systems
bachelor’s degree in engineering incontrol, automation, software, or electrical design but other relevant degrees or practical industrial experience will be considered
experience with AutoCAD 2D design packages
experience in relevant programming languages, particularly C / C++

interpret technical drawings and CAD files to assemble accurate machining instructions
utilise SolidWorks and other CAD software to design tooling and fixtures as needed
conduct routine maintenance on CNC machines and troubleshoot any issues that arise during production
collaborate with the engineering team to improve manufacturing processes and efficiency
perform materials handling tasks, ensuring proper storage and usage of materials in line with safety protocols
apply basic maths skills to calculate dimensions, tolerances, and material requirements accurately
ensure compliance with all safety regulations while operating machinery
Education
GCSE or equivalent
Requirements
proven experience in CNC programming, particularly with milling machines
familiarity with logic controllers and their application in CNC operations
strong mechanical knowledge with the ability to understand complex machinery functions
experience in welding is advantageous but not essential
proficiency in CAD software, especially SolidWorks, is highly desirable
ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
