- you should be GDC registered with experience or be enrolled on a dental nursing course already
- act on the dentist's instructions
- clean, sterilize, and organize instruments and equipment
- prepare surgery for procedures
- provide and maintain chair-side assistance whilst accurately completing patient clinical records as instructed - we use Software of Excellence
- be warm and welcoming towards our patients
- ensure the care and well being of patients at all times and ensure smooth patient communications
- clinical duties Provide Chronic disease management for Diabetes, COPD, Asthma, and CHD/CVD Perform cervical screening and promote breast awareness Administer adult and paediatric injections Provide adult and child immunisations ensuring full achievement of targets Ensure safe storage, rotation, and disposal of vaccines and drugs Undertake venepuncture and electrocardiography Undertake wound care/ management / dressing techniques Undertake leg ulcer management, dopplers and compression bandaging Provide advice on lifestyle issues, assisting and supporting patients in changing their unhealthy behaviours and refer appropriately Participate in the smoking cessation service Deliver travel health care, including vaccinations and advice for patients Recognise the signs of child abuse, family violence, vulnerable adults, substance abuse, addictive behaviours, suicidal tendencies, and be aware of local, referral procedures Work with safeguarding teams where relevant Ensure that current evidence-based approaches to patient care are standard practice Apply infection control measures when collecting and handling of laboratory specimens, disposing of waste materials, dealing with blood and body fluids spillages and report and treat sharps injuries Undertake first aid and management of emergencies, e.g
- ensure adequate stocks of materials and personal protection equipment and maintain equipment logs
- burns, haemorrhages, hypo/hyperglycaemic emergencies/asthma attacks Provides a comprehensive family planning service Audit outcomes of care against standards and initiate change as necessary ensuring follow-up audit cycle Maintain and update disease registers
- be able to communicate well with patients and make the clinicians aware of any concerns the patients have
- surgery Hours Monday to Friday are: Monday 8am-5.30pm, Tuesday 8am-5.30pm, Wednesday 8am-7.30pm, Thursday 8am-5.30pm, Friday 7.45am-4pm
- help patients to confidently complete medical history forms and questionnaires
- take payments & also make and receive telephone calls if necessary
- keeping all clinical instruments clean, tidy and sterile in accordance to best practice - on a daily basis a full auditing tool is provided and further training for this will be given
- help patients with enquiries regarding practice membership
- must be able to adjust and adapt in their working environment
- implant nursing experience is desirable
Requirements
- dental assisting: 1 year
- dental Nursing: 1 year
