Requirements
- phD in ancient DNA or related subject
- A PhD or equivalent research experience in a natural sciences discipline
- experience undertaking independent research in the natural sciences, in particular with expertise in biodiversity monitoring and/or environmental change

- experience in ancient/historical DNA laboratory methods for next generation sequencing. Preferably using both skeletal and sediment material
- experience working with complex biodiversity datasets and associated meta-data
- experience analysing UK and/or urban biodiversity
- experience analysing large and complex datasets including geospatial data
- experience in the application of custom bioinformatics pipelines for the computational analyses of degraded genomic data
- experience developing biodiversity conservation and restoration strategies for urban or degraded landscapes
- track record of publishing research in peer-reviewed journals
- ability to analyse and interpret ancient/degraded genomic and metagenomic/sediment high throughput DNA sequencing data
- experience with geospatial analysis in R and/or GIS software
- experience with remote sensing data and image analysis techniques
- awareness and knowledge of community and citizen science as a field of practice
- A background in palaeontology, archaeology or related subject
- excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment
- A good publication record in peer-reviewed scientific journals
- evidence of communicating science effectively and with confidence to professional and public audiences
- good interpersonal skills and ability to explain methods and techniques e.g. presenting at scientific conferences
- experience of managing a complex workload with multiple tight deadlines
- experience working with stakeholders from different sectors, such as NGOs and government agencies
- strong organisational skills and time management
- demonstrated ability in training others in laboratory and data analysis methods
- practical experience of biological recording and/or biodiversity and habitat mapping and monitoring, with the ability to identify common UK species, ideally with expertise in one or more taxa
- ability to work independently and as part of a cross-department and multi-institutional team

- proficiency of statistical analysis and modelling in R is essential, and experience using programming languages such as Python or MATLAB being beneficial
