- researching the cost of items such as materials, transport, labour and equipment
- obtaining quotes from suppliers and contractors with a specified time frame
- assessing the risk levels associated with a project
- preparing and submitting quotations and details of costs for work to be done
- preparing tenders for existing clients and new contracts
- monitoring the costs at the different stages of a project to ensure it stays within the estimated costs
- good understanding of current CDM Health and Safety requirements, modern methods of construction and contractual awareness
- excellent communication and organisational skills displaying attention to detail
- the ability to make decisions in a timely and appropriate manner
- analytical and forward thinking
- ability to build effective working relationships and maintain and build client relationships to secure further work opportunities
- good understanding of the building process and construction materials
- good knowledge of health and safety
