Responsibility
- to ensure that methods of preparation and presentation comply with current recognised catering standards
- develop and maintain high quality food presentation standards
- to check meals for residents, staff and visitors for quality, quantity, temperature and appearance

- have knowledge and prepare meals for beneficiaries and visitors’ guests with special dietary requirements
- to assist with menu planning, rota changes, orders, stock taking and receiving deliveries
- to ensure that all areas within the kitchen and dining room are clean and tidy at all times
- to ensure that all stores and other areas of potential loss are secured at all times
- to assist with buffets and functions related to RBL business as required
- to supervise and manage the inductions and appraisals of new staff
- to report complaints and/or compliments and take remedial action if required
- to ensure that all members of staff and visitors adhere to the statutory regulations and Royal British Legion policies pertaining to the safety and hygiene operations of the kitchen and dining room areas
- to attend and contribute to Team Meetings, as required
- to liaise with the Royal British Legion’s appointed Catering and Support Service Management Company as required
- ensure food preparation for beneficiaries: o adheres to nutrition, hydration and dietary requirements in line with regulatory requirements o meets the individual needs as directed by the relevant specialist and Head
- any other duties as are within the scope, spirit and purpose of the job, the title of the post and its grading as requested by the line manager or Head of Department/Division

- city & Guilds 706 Food Preparation or equivalent. E Application/Certificate
- level 3 Food Preparation and Cooking or equivalent. E Application/Certificate
- intermediary Food Hygiene or equivalent. E Application/Certificate

- to be fully conversant and act in compliance with the home’s policies and procedures
- in addition, you will be an effective communicator and have experience of leading a team and the management of stock control
- ability to work alone as well as part of a team to promote harmonious working relationships
- minimum of 3 years working as a chef or within the care sector understanding modified diets
- excellent record keeping, to plan, implement and evaluate delivery nutrition
- experience of working in a Care Home or similar setting Application/Interview such as charity/ not for profit sector. D
- the ability to form positive relationships with colleagues, residents, and outside agencies
- respond to cultural and individual differences, especially the changing needs of people with dementia
- knowledge of food preparation for special dietary requirements/preferences and health-related conditions. E Interview
- experience in leading a small team
- excellent time keeping and time management
- experience of catering for people with specific dietary E Application/Interview requirements
- able to work with and supervise volunteers/students
- understanding of the legal requirements covering food safety, ventilation, water and safe use and maintenance of E Interview equipment
- ability to adapt to change and emergency situations
- experience of catering for a minimum of 100 people. D Application/Interview
- understanding of modern culinary trends and presentation. E Interview/Assessment
- educated to NVQ 2 Cooking or equivalent and an immediate food hygiene certificate, you will have experience of catering management in a care home or similar environment for large number of people and experience of catering to meet special dietary requirements
- previous experience of maintaining standards within Catering Department according to Health & Safety and Food Safety Act and good IT skills are essential
