Responsibility

  • A busy construction company based in Newton Abbot, is currently recruiting an experienced Payroll Clerk
  • as the Payroll Administrator you’ll be the first point of contact for pay related queries
  • you will ensure all Employees and Sub-Contractors, are paid on time and accurately
  • process all payment data such as wages/salary of CIS contractors and employees
  • receive, process, issue and amend all paperwork, e.g., invoices, expenses, new starter contracts, pay rises etc
  • ensure CIS contractor payments are accurate and the correct tax % is deducted, to send to HMRC
  • inputting data into SAGE
  • issue/amend and maintain all employee, contractor, supplier contracts and records

  • experience working in a busy payroll or finance team is preferred
  • some knowledge of payroll legislation, e.g. PAYE, NI, CIS

Responsibility

  • conduct quantity take-offs and accurately estimate material, labour, and equipment costs for construction projects
  • participate in bid meetings, negotiations, and attend all pre-let meetings to optimise project costs and profitability
  • prepare detailed cost estimates, including labour, materials, subcontractor costs, and overhead expenses
  • review project plans, specifications, and other documentation to understand project requirements
  • undertake site visits to assess project scope, conditions and potential challenges
  • research and analyse market trends, material costs, and subcontractor pricing to ensure competitive and accurate estimates
  • utilise construction estimating software and tools to streamline the estimating process and maintain accurate records
  • present cost estimates and possible value engineering opportunities to management and clients, providing clear explanations and justifications for cost projections

Requirements

  • bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field
  • proven experience as a construction estimator or similar role in the construction industry
  • strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and techniques
  • proficiency in reading and interpreting construction blueprints, drawings, and specifications
  • excellent mathematical and analytical skills, with the ability to perform detailed quantity take-offs and cost calculations
  • familiarity with construction estimating software and tools
  • effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to clearly present and explain cost estimates to stakeholders
  • strong organisational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
