engineer
Requirements
- educated to at least NQF/NVQ level 6
- appropriate HNC, National Qualifications Framework level 5; preferably degree level or working towards
- HNC/HND or equivalent technical qualification in a scientific, environmental or engineering discipline
- A minimum of degree level or other equivalent qualification in science/engineering
- member of a relevant professional institute
- ideally Membership of a relevant Engineering Institution and/or Chartered Status
- knowledge of environmental issues including practices, policies, legislation and stakeholders relating to radioactive and non-active waste management
- knowledge of higher activity waste management, especially containers and conditioning methods
Responsibility
- provide the focal point and ownership for a portfolio of assigned systems and/or assets
- maintain a system file
- undertake delegated responsibility for the Design Authority and site intelligent customer when required
- deputise for Section Head when required
- undertake emergency scheme duties when required
- provide authoritative advice on radiological environmental and waste matters
- delivery of disposability related technical underpinning e.g. gas generation cases, impact performance, waste inventories etc
- support project optioneering process
