Responsibility

  • the post holder may be required to achieve various authorisations in order to carry out the full scope of the role. The requirements for specific authorisations are specified in Common Authorisation Instructions

Requirements

Responsibility

safety engineer

Requirements

  • educated to NQF level 3 / NVQ Level 3 in relevant discipline

  • A degree or equivalent NQF level 6 qualification in a suitable technical subject, e.g. mechanical engineering / physics

Responsibility

  • support performance monitoring and provide advice as necessary to maintain conventional safety standards and improve performance

senior project engineer

Responsibility

  • carry out specific duties as referenced in DFARS procedures and working instructions

  • provide training for appointed persons first aid, breathing apparatus and rope rescue
  • respond to emergency incidents including fires, rescues, ambulance calls and special services

Requirements

  • experience of nuclear waste management, covering a broad range of alpha, beta and gamma emitting wastes in differing forms
  • A Degree or equivalent in a relevant scientific, environmental or Engineering subject or NQF level 5
  • knowledge of practices, policies, legislation and stakeholders relating to radioactive and non-radioactive waste management
  • experience in developing waste inventories and associated electronic and hard copy records management
  • strong IT skills, knowledge of relational databases an advantage. Training may be required to develop the appropriate skills level
  • knowledge of the types of operational and safety controls that can be applied within a Nuclear facility
  • there is a requirement to live within a commutable distance to the sites where the role is based. For central/multi-site roles, we have various hubs across the UK and can be flexible with base location

Responsibility

  • system specific training will be provided where relevant
  • be responsible for the quality and management of waste records in both paper and electronic formats
  • be responsible for managing team workload, people, performance, staff development, control and supervision, event reporting, learning, communications and team competency assessments
  • ensure key documentation including working instructions, specifications, and technical reference documents are available and accurate
  • use the Access© and Paradox© databases holding radioactive waste inventory data and safety case information to allow waste to move through its required processing routes and to generate the requisite compliant package records
  • perform the duties of a Nuclear Material Custodian, including inventory taking and to ensure that the Magnox accountancy system for Nuclear Material is accurate and updated, initiating updates as required
  • there may be a requirement to undertake emergency scheme duties
  • carries out oversight reviews of asbestos management arrangements and processes. Definition of scope parameters in support of asbestos survey requirements

civil engineer

Requirements

  • degree in Civil Engineering ; preferably membership of a relevant Engineering Institution and Chartered Status
  • HNC, Engineering Degree or National Qualifications Framework level 4 qualification
  • experience in a practising Civil Engineering role
  • nuclear and/or conventional project engineering experience
  • knowledge of contract management is preferred
  • understanding of relevant Company and/or national engineering standards
  • working knowledge of the Safety Rules and working knowledge of risk assessment methodology
  • understanding of relevant Site Licence and Quality Management System requirements

Responsibility

  • supporting the development of technical strategies, approaches and methodologies to deliver civil and structural engineering aspects of decommissioning projects
  • this includes providing civil engineering support and advice, and managing technical interfaces between, and within, project areas
  • acting as the technical lead to manage and oversee specific areas of design, construction, procurement, installation and testing of civils works
  • providing general civil engineering advice and support to other areas and/or other NRS projects
  • answering technical queries from sub-contractor designers regarding civils and structural work packages
  • supporting the civil engineering works of large decommissioning projects. This includes completing civil engineering design and analysis work to meet project objectives and within project timescales and budgets
