Responsibility

- to support Thermal Products Division in building strength in Materials Science, Application Engineering and Customer Focus
- perform DOE to establish UCL & LCL parameters for the manufacturing process

- design, organise and carry out material development, production and processing trials at pilot and production scales
- guide and support the CoE fibre line team, and report supporting evidence of work packages
- qualify and sign off the process for on-time production start
- work with a project management methodology and stage gate approach
- perform product/process analysis and implement continuous improvement initiatives for cost reduction, scrap reduction, yield improvements and increased overall equipment efficiency
- provide the key materials science expertise into development projects to enhance material, process, or product performance
- identify new technologies to assist with the manufacture of products relating to the Thermal Products Business
- the Process Engineer is a key member of the Technical Team, with responsibility to develop, implement, and manage the manufacturing processes, methods, and equipment designed to ensure continuous production of advanced carbon materials that meet or exceed our customers’ expectations
- identify the root cause of process failures and develop robust countermeasures to prevent reoccurrence
- establish the need for technology change and participate in technology roadmap activities
- the role requires a ‘hands on’ individual who can balance the theoretical with the practical aspects of the job, coupled with the interpersonal skills to drive through improvements
- engage with new technologies and innovations. Working with trials both external and internal to examine potential product needs delivery and assist in Capex programs to implement identified technologies
- ensure all process documentation and logs are completed in full and to the correct standard
- bring in supplier technologies in house to conduct first off trials
- develop capex to enable plant adoption
- function as a technical consultant to the operations group and act as their liaison to the Thermal CoE and greater Morgan technology community
- support Continuous Improvement initiatives across site
- work in a methodical, organised & structured manner at all times
- develop new downstream processing to enable penetration into new markets or high margin markets - establish the need for technology change
- provide hands on support to rectify process failures
- represents process engineering on cross-functional teams, supporting other functions to achieve business objectives
- form links with external suppliers to conduct proving trials with their products. Develop product design specifications so that external technologies can link with standard TDP equipment
- work overtime to support the business at times of high workload or to provide absence or holiday cover
- factory delivery performance & lead time
- manage external contractors to site and ensure all Company policies and procedures are followed. To include administration of permits to work and review / sign off upon completed works

Requirements
- time served Apprenticeship in an Engineering discipline
- degree educated ideally in a Materials Science/Engineering discipline
- engineering Degree, Masters

- able to work independently as well as working effectively as part of a cross-functional team
- extensive knowledge and experience in industrial process or project management, including Capex programmes from specifications to implementation and commissioning
- minimum 5 years post apprenticeship experience within a manufacturing process engineering role
- demonstrate problem analysis and problem-solving skills adopting Six Sigma methodology
- demonstrate a strong team-based approach to leadership, and operated in a similar decentralised business before with demonstrable personal credibility
- experience of large-scale projects and CDM controls
- must be confident in carrying out project work, cooperating with operators on plant and taking responsibility for driving projects to completion
- working knowledge of Stage Gate methodology and other PMO tools
- ability to travel internationally to other MAM sites for knowledge building & sharing
- must be able to clearly present ideas and reports in written and verbal format
- knowledge and experience in product development, process development for fibre, IFB and monolithic manufacture methods would be desirable
- experience of working within a high temperature process / heavy industry environment
- strong interpersonal and communication skills and be able to build solid working relationships employees at all levels
- experience writing Capex proposals and a strong understanding the financial and business administration inputs beneficial
- experience in facilitating new process introduction and plant floor reconfiguration projects
