Female Support Worker, Shelford, CB22 £12 - £15 per hour, according to qualifications and experience R is an engaging, intelligent young woman with dystonic cerebral palsy. She is wheel-chair dependent and has no verbal communication. She lives at home with her family and her wide range of enthusiasms and interests include music, theatre, ballet, science and visits to museums and gardens. However, every aspect of her life, from her daily personal care to her outside interests, pastimes and outings requires the assistance of a companion and facilitator. At any time, R has a small team of personal assistants (PAs), all of whom work part-time, and each of them provides, in a holistic way, for all her needs: personal care and intellectual stimulation. Her assistants have come from wide variety of backgrounds (students, teachers, an artist, a musician, a physiotherapist, and an interior designer), but most have been post-graduate students. Working with R Experience in care work is welcome but not essential since support is always given while a new assistant becomes familiar and competent with the practicalities of the job. The main requirement is that each assistant is caring and empathic, enthusiastic, intelligent, and creative. During the time spent with R, they must be fully committed to helping her achieve as much independence and fulfilment in her life as possible.
