Health Independent Domestic Violence Advisor (IDVA) Exeter
The Health Independent Domestic Violence Advisor (IDVA) will be employed by FearLess to develop pathways and processes for the Health IDVA primarily in Maternity Services, A&E and Psychiatric Liaison at the Royal Devon & Exeter (RD&E) University Hospital.The Health IDVA will work within a dynamic, fast paced, crisis intervention, advocacy and support service embedded within the hospital to ensure all staff are aware of Domestic Abuse, and equipped to ask the right questions and encourage both patients and staff to engage with the support the Health IDVA will bring to this environment.The post holder will assist health practitioners to respond more effectively to domestic abuse, particularly those with complex and multiple needs, and will bring specialist knowledge and skills in empowering clients to seek the right support, and move forward.The work will include providing specialist knowledge and expertise to other health care practitioners to ensure victims of domestic abuse (and their children) are safeguarded from further harm, to provide a strong partnership approach to service provision.Priority will be given to medium and high risk cases that are employees and patients of RD & E Hospital – those who do not live in Exeter to be sign-posted to specialist support within FearLess Devon (excluding Torbay and Plymouth). Based within the Wiltshire Domestic Abuse Service, the IDVA team work within a multi-agency system to provide a proactive, person centered independent service for victims of domestic abuse, empowering choice through informed decision making.Key elements of the role include:Providing priority support to service users.Risk assessing and helping to keep service users safe through safety planning.Enabling victims to access statutory and other services.Engaging with and supporting the MARAC process, to ensure that the voice of victims is heard.Managing a caseload of high-risk victims and working proactively to support them and their families.To act as Duty Worker on a rota basis, answering calls from service users and professionals.FearLess recognises the need for additional specialisms within IDVA work. Independent Domestic Violence Advisor Exeter
This role is part of theDevon Domestic Abuse Service which provides support to high and medium risk victims of domestic abuse and their families. The main tasks for this role include:To provide a timely pro-active service to male and female victims of domestic violence and abuse, who have been assessed as being at high risk (10 and above); working within a multi-agency setting to ensure risk is reduced.Support the senior IDVA in working closely with the local MARAC to ensure appropriate support for high-risk victims that meet the MARAC threshold.Work with victims whose needs assessment identifies them as being likely to become high risk.Inform service users of their housing, civil and legal options and either directly facilitate access to services or refer on to appropriate providers.
