Responsibility

  • to ensure an ongoing welcoming, caring and safe environment is provided for the children, young people and their families
  • identify and escalate significant changes in a child or young persons condition or well-being, outside of your area of competence
  • caring for children with a wide range of complex clinical needs and technology dependence
  • work with other members of the multidisciplinary care team to ensure that plans of care are carried out to the agreed standard
  • develop and maintain clinical skills and knowledge necessary to provide holistic, evidence-based nursing care
  • this includes completion of the hospice clinical skills competencies and expanded role responsibilities, following appropriate training
  • assist with ongoing education and training of colleagues, students and trainee practitioners, as required
  • establish therapeutic relationships with children, young people and their families Deliver care after the death of a child, supporting their family whilst in the hospice, and at home

  • provide emotional and psychological support to children and their family, adjusting to illness, disability, end of life issues and bereavement
  • deliver complex technical interventions to support children with complex health needs, such as tracheostomy and ventilators, gastrostomy, jejunostomy and suctioning
  • support the delivery of palliative and end of life care both in the hospice and at home
  • support opportunities for children and young people building memories and experiences
  • keep clear, accurate care records, reporting any deterioration, concerns or incidents to the nurse in charge
  • clinical: Act as an advocate for babies, children and young people, and their families, maintaining professional boundaries
  • provide nursing care and support to children under the direction and supervision of the nurse in charge

Requirements

  • familiarity of catering for differing dietary needs, with a good knowledge of using seasonal food
  • experience of front-line work with members of the public
  • experience of catering for children and adults with restrictive diets
  • experience of working with and supporting volunteers
  • ability to take initiative to deal with day-to-day issues
  • great interpersonal skills and a passion for hospitality
  • SHEFFIELD: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work

Requirements

  • carry out cleaning tasks, laundry duties, assist with equipment and stock control under the direction of the housekeeping team leader
  • removal of all domestic waste within the hospice
  • comply with all hospice policies & procedures
  • to attend team meetings, mandatory training courses and to participate in the performance and development review process
  • observe confidentiality of children, young people and their families at all times
  • assist in the provision of a high standard of housekeeping services which comply with statutory and legal requirements and that all service users experience a pleasant, safe, clean and welcoming environment
  • encourage the philosophy of Bluebell Wood and present a good public image
  • ensure that all surfaces, fixtures and fittings within the designated work area, apart from medical apparatus, are kept clean and tidy
