- the purpose of this Job Description is to indicate the general level of responsibility of the post
- to carry out fire and rescue work as required
- on satisfactory completion of training, fire service personnel are required to have a thorough working knowledge of all fire service procedures and practices and to be able to carry out the operational role of an Airport Fire Fighter as detailed
- BHX Fire & Rescue reserves the right to vary the duties and responsibilities without changing the general character or level of responsibility
- thus it must be appreciated that the described duties may be altered as operational circumstances dictate to meet the changing needs of the business
- to have a thorough knowledge of the emergency procedures appertaining to the Airport Fire Service
- to carry out any special service as directed by the Station Manager or other Supervisor
- to provide an escort service for contractors working on or in the vicinity of the runway and taxiways, when required
Requirements
- persons with fire service experience should have attended a recognised qualification from an approved Fire Service Training Centre
- good physical fitness, capable of undertaking both aerobic and anaerobic physical tasks
- previous fire service experience in Local Authority, Retained Fire Service, Royal Air Force or Royal Navy
- ability to work in conditions of heat, smoke & darkness, confined spaces
- previous experience of working in an Airport environment either on the operational side or aircraft engineering
- to obtain a Firefighters Certificate of Competence
- assist with escort duties for contractors working on the runway/taxiway
- to be able to work at heights, i.e. on ladders
