The South East Trunk Road Unit spans 506km through some of the busiest sections of the country, from central Scotland to through the Scottish Borders. It includes routes such as the Edinburgh City Bypass, as well as a large section of the M8 connecting Edinburgh to Glasgow. The Highway Maintenance Operative, reporting into the Operations Manager, should be an experienced roadworker with the necessary skills to carry out various road maintenance operations, training can be provided if necessary. Ideally you should be prepared to participate in our winter and emergency response service on a standby rota basis. This is a full time role. Role includes: The erection and removal of temporary signs and barriers (permanent signs and barriers). Hot material patching by hand. Drainage works, excavation, pipe laying, kerb laying, scrub cutting. Installation and fixing of temporary/permanent road furniture. Operation of power tools, small plant and machinery. Driving vehicles including those with simple attachments such as tractors. Prepare written returns including fault report details. Provide support for specialist roadworkers. Responsibility for the health and safety of the public, colleagues and yourself. Participating in standby and winter maintenance rota. Based in our Queensferry depot and reporting into the Maintenance Manager, the Bridge Maintenance Operative will assist trade teams with daily tasks such as access installation, bridge repair and maintenance tasks. Driving duties will include drop off and collection of materials to suppliers as required.
