- management responsibility for developing and maintaining Customs processes and ensuring compliance across all sites

- ensure written procedures are in place for Customs processes /approvals

- A market leading Defence company is currently recruiting for an Trade Compliance Specialist / Export Compliance Officer to join on a permanent basis in their Ellesmere Port office on a hybrid working basis
- maintain effective relationships with key internal and external stakeholders to ensure that export control is managed effectively and efficiently
- proactively identify potential for non-compliance with import or export legislation in the business and recommend and implement of corrective actions
- support the tracking of International Export licenses and US authorisations to ensure continued compliance
- the Trade Compliance Specialist / Export Compliance Officer will be responsible to advise and provide expertise relating to all export control / trade compliance activities working with cross-functional teams and applying for UK licensing applications through SPIRE
- provide training to the operations team for Customs processes and procedures
- apply for US EAR licenses, using SNAP-R and liaise with the companies US to apply for appropriate DDTC approvals
- management of the correct operation of all aspects of the company's Inward Processing Relief Authorisation and processes
- tariff codes assessment and classification
- maintain and update database of all UK/International export licences/movements and US export authorisations, held by the business
- prepare UK export licence applications and authorisations
- review and audit special regime Customs activity
- solid understanding of customs declarations
- provide import requirements for all inbound traffic to nominated freight agents ensuring correct usage of classification and import schemes
- provide guidance to the customs operations team in respect of new flows as well as issue resolution for existing flows
- undertake appropriate checks for ITAR material and DSP's
- management of the product codification process
- manage the process for requesting import/export entry amendments where identified
- carnet applications approval and submission
- track status of all export authorisation requests from internal request to Governmental approval to close of licence/authorisation, as appropriate
- review and audit the preferential origin process and documentation
- manage the return of any temporary imports to meet international customs & licensing requirements
- check the accuracy of freight forwarder invoices in relation to customs charges; approve invoices
- support investigations and VD submission when required
- conduct Denied Party Screening transactions and support the review of potential questions where required
- review and audit a representative sample of both import and export Customs declarations
- manage preferential origin assessments and declarations for customers
- ensuring process and standards are upheld; reviews and recommends improvements to procedures to ensure export licences are in place efficiently to improve on-time delivery

- eligible for UK security clearance
- ideally aerospace, defence or high technology background
- A strong understanding of the customs and trade laws, regulations and procedures
- understanding of UK & US export regulations with be advantageous
- experience of working directly with External/Internal auditors, Government bodies
- A "can do" attitude
- A good level of understanding of UK / US Export control regulations
- experience in technology export classification preferred
- excellent communication skills, both written and spoken
